Resources & FAQ

This page provides answers to common questions about therapy, evaluations, and working with Felder Psychological Services, along with helpful resources and information about getting started.

Getting Started

  • Do you take insurance?

I am out of network with all insurances. Depending on your plan you may be able to submit claims for partial reimbursement. I am happy to provide a superbill to support that process. I also recommend calling your insurance company before we meet to ask about your out of network mental health benefits.

  • How do I get started?

The first step is to reach out, whether by submitting an inquiry through my contact form, calling, or emailing me. From there, I will follow up to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to talk through your concerns, answer any questions you have, and determine whether my services are the right fit for your needs.

Evaluations

  • How long does a neuropsychological evaluation take and what does it involve?

The evaluation typically takes place over two to three in-person appointments depending on the complexity of the case. Before we meet in person we do a virtual intake to go through history and current concerns. After testing is complete we meet virtually to go through the results together and you receive a detailed written report with specific recommendations.

  • How is a private evaluation different from a school evaluation?

School evaluations are typically focused on whether a child qualifies for specific services within that school. A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation provides a deeper understanding of how your child learns, thinks, and functions. It examines the factors contributing to their strengths and challenges, answers diagnostic questions when appropriate, and results in a detailed written report with individualized recommendations that can be used across settings.

  • My child is reluctant to come in for testing. What should I do?

That is very common. Many children and teens feel uncertain about what to expect, and that's okay. I take time to get to know each child, answer their questions, and adjust my approach to meet them where they are. Building rapport is an important part of the evaluation process, and I work to create an environment where each child feels supported and comfortable.

  • Do you offer targeted evaluations?

Yes. While many clients benefit from a comprehensive evaluation, others have a specific question they are hoping to answer. Depending on the referral concern, a more focused evaluation may be appropriate. During the initial consultation, we'll discuss your goals and determine the type of assessment that best fits your needs.

  • Do you provide evaluations for testing accommodations (SAT, ACT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and similar exams)?

Yes. I provide evaluations for individuals seeking accommodations on standardized and professional examinations, including the SAT, ACT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and other qualifying tests. These evaluations are tailored to the specific documentation requirements of the testing organization and include the information needed to support an accommodations request.

  • Do parents stay during testing?

Yes. It is my policy that a parent remain in the office during their child's evaluation. This allows you to be available if needed throughout the day. A private waiting area with Wi-Fi is available, so you can work, read, or relax while you wait.

Therapy

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?

That is one of the most common things people wonder before reaching out. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If something has been feeling harder than it should for a while, that is enough of a reason. Therapy is not just for emergencies. It is for people who want to understand themselves better and feel less stuck.

  • What happens in the first session?

The first session is really just a conversation. I want to understand what brought you in, a little about your history, and what you are hoping to get out of working together. There is no pressure to have everything figured out before we meet. You just show up and we go from there.

  • How long are therapy sessions?

The initial intake session is 60 minutes. Ongoing therapy sessions are 45 minutes and are typically scheduled weekly at first. Session frequency can be adjusted over time based on your needs and circumstances.

  • Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?

Yes. I offer in-person therapy at my office in Highland Park, New Jersey, as well as virtual therapy for clients located in New Jersey and New York.
