What is Grief Therapy?

Grief therapy supports you as you process loss and its impact on your emotional world, your identity, and your daily life. Grief does not move in a straight line. It can come in waves and often shows up alongside anxiety, sadness, anger, guilt, or confusion. In therapy, we explore how grief is affecting you personally, including how you relate to memories and how your relationships may have changed. It offers a place to express emotions that may feel difficult to share elsewhere.

What Sets Us Apart

I work with teens and adults navigating loss in many forms. Rather than pushing you to move on or feel better quickly, I focus on honoring your experience and helping you make sense of what this loss means for you.

Sessions are collaborative, respectful, and paced in a way that supports both emotional safety and growth.

FAQs About Grief Therapy

  • When should someone seek grief therapy?

There's no required timeline for seeking support. Some people come immediately after loss while others wait months or years. If grief significantly impacts daily functioning, feels stuck, or includes complicated feelings like relief or anger, therapy can help. Even "normal" grief deserves support.

  • Can therapy help with losses besides death?

Absolutely. Divorce, job loss, health changes, friendship endings, and life transitions all involve grief. Ambiguous losses like dementia, addiction, or estrangement create unique challenges. Any significant loss deserves acknowledgment and support through therapy regardless of whether others recognize it as grief.

  • What if my grief doesn't look the way I expected?

Grief appears differently for everyone. Some people feel numb, angry, relieved, or disconnected rather than traditionally sad. These responses don't mean you're grieving wrong or loved less. Therapy provides space to explore your unique grief expression without judgment about what's "normal."

  • How long does grief therapy take?

Grief has no timeline, and neither should therapy. Some people find helpful support in months while others benefit from longer-term work. We'll regularly assess what you need, adjusting frequency and focus as your grief evolves.
