About Dr. Leah Felder

Hi, I'm Dr. Leah Felder
Most people who reach out are not sure exactly what they need. They just know something feels off, and figuring it out alone has not been working.
Maybe you have been wondering for years whether there is a name for the way your mind works. Maybe your child is working harder than everyone else and still falling behind. Maybe you are holding everything together on the outside while quietly struggling in ways you cannot quite articulate.
I am a licensed psychologist in New Jersey and New York. I offer neuropsychological evaluations and therapy for children, teens, young adults, and adults. My work sits at the intersection of assessment and therapy, bringing the perspective of each to how I understand the people I work with.
What Shaped My Practice
Throughout my training and early career, I found myself especially drawn to people whose difficulties were not easily explained. Sometimes there was a disconnect between how capable someone seemed and how hard certain aspects of daily life were for them. Other times, there were overlapping concerns that did not fit neatly into a single diagnosis.
That complexity is a large part of what drew me to both assessment and therapy. I am curious about the patterns that have developed over time, the strengths that may make certain difficulties harder to recognize, and the different factors that contribute to how someone is functioning now.
Understanding those patterns is what keeps me invested in every person I work with.

Training and Credentials
I hold a Psy.D. in Combined School-Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University and am licensed as a Psychologist in both New Jersey and New York. My training focused on comprehensive psychological assessment, and I have built specialized experience in ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, and giftedness evaluation with children, adolescents, and adults. In therapy, I draw on psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches, with particular experience working with high-achieving adolescents and young adults.

How I Work
In Therapy
I am not just reflecting things back at you. I am actively engaged, asking questions, noticing patterns, offering observations. I draw on psychodynamic thinking to understand where your patterns come from, and on cognitive behavioral tools to give you something practical to work with in the meantime.
I work at your pace. But I do push a little in the right moments, because staying comfortable has rarely been what creates change.
In Testing
An evaluation with me is thorough. That is not just a word I use. I pay close attention to the details that get missed when someone is moving quickly, and I am particularly experienced with profiles that are complex. High intelligence that coexists with learning struggles. Strengths that have been masking difficulties for years.
The report you receive will be written clearly, with recommendations that make sense for your specific situation.

This is What I Believe
- People are more capable than their struggles suggest. There is almost always more going on beneath the surface, and finding it changes what becomes possible.
- Feeling understood is not a soft outcome. Clarity is often the thing that makes everything else possible.
- Good care is specific. The details are usually where the real answers live.
Who I Work Best With
For Evaluations
I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I especially enjoy the profiles that are harder to categorize. The kid who is clearly bright but inexplicably struggling. The adult who has suspected ADHD their whole life but never had a real answer. The student whose strengths have made their difficulties harder to recognize.
For Therapy
For therapy, my caseload tends to be older teens, college students, and young adults. Often high-achievers. Often people who are hard on themselves in ways that are not serving them. Often people who have real insight into what is happening but are not sure how to change it.
If that sounds like you, we would probably work well together.
